Creating a Custom Floorcloth

Have a painted floorcloth custom made for your space.

We’ll work to create the perfect custom floorcloth, beginning with conversation and collaboration.

  • Determine where you want to place your rug, and what size will best suit that space. We can discuss your plans and I can help you determine the best use of the floorcloth in your space. You can share images you’ve found on your own, or browse my gallery for inspiration. Below you’ll find a few images to get you started.

  • To determine the size of your floorcloth take several newspapers and tape them together in the approximate shape. Lay the paper pattern on the floor and cut and tape as necessary until you have the size that looks correct for your space. For a dining area rug be sure to leave enough space for the chairs to move back and forth easily. (Usually at least 18" beyond the edge of the table on each side).

  • Design colors are hand-mixed from acrylic paints and vary with each painting. It is helpful to send a selection of paint chips to convey a common understanding of the general colors you seek. Colors will be comparable but expect some variation with the painting.

  • Creating a custom floorcloth for you is something I love to do.  So let’s talk about what you want.

We can talk by phone or email and then my job is to synthesize your ideas into a design that works for your space.  This is where my forty years of design experience helps filter through the information and determine how to achieve your goals.

The process is fluid and creative and can look a little bit different for every project.  We’ll work together to ensure you’re getting the perfect floorcloth for your space.  You can tell me what you like or what you don’t want, it won’t hurt my feelings!

The Design Process from Sketch to Finished Piece

Before and After Floorcloth Installation

I ask for a non refundable design deposit to sketch up some ideas to show you what I’m thinking.  Then I will paint a smaller version to test colors and layout.  I will send you photos along the way to see if I’ve included all of your colors.  Once approved its time to pay a 50% deposit and let me start on your custom piece.

The larger piece is the same partnership and I will send you photo updates along the way.  Once the painting is finished I will ask for final payment. Find more details on shipping and processing below.

Many thanks for making my “dream” floorcloths. When I look at them I will smile… pure joy in their designs… but also the special care you took to ‘get it right.’
